Dr Neal Murphy, University College Dublin, Ireland
Dr Neal Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, University College Dublin. His research interests include the mechanical and fracture characterization of bulk materials (ranging from polymers to polycrystalline diamond cutting tools) and a wide range of adhesive joint systems. An integral part of this work is the multi-scale modeling of heterogeneous materials and the investigation of the structure-property relationship for multi-phase materials. He has been a member of ESIS TC4 since 2005 and has played an active role in the development of a wide range of test protocols including mode I delamination fatigue and high rate delamination of fibre reinforced composites, and fracture toughness testing of adhesive joints. He is currently coordinating peel testing activities in TC4, including the development of a new ISO standard for the determination of the interlaminar fracture toughness of flexible laminates using a peel test. He has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters and over 70 conference papers to date.
