Andrea Pavan, Politecnico di Milano, Italy
Graduated in Chemical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1964 with an experimental thesis on a polymer solid-solid thermodynamic transition (supervisor Prof. G. Natta), which decided his life-long interest in polymers. After a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at RTI, N.C. (USA) with Prof. A.Peterlin, back to Politecnico di Milano he set up the Polymer Engineering Laboratory and became Professor of Polymer Engineering.
His research activity has been centred on the processing and end-use properties of polymeric materials, with a specific interest in polymer rheology, the mechanical behaviour of solid polymers and composites, and their engineering designing and applications.
He has been joint-chairman [with Prof. J.G.Williams] of ESIS Technical Committee 4 on 'Polymers and Composites' since 1989.
